How to Change Without Overwhelming Yourself
This is where I usually get stuck. Not in the awareness. Not in realizing something needs to change, but in what comes next.
Because once you see it… it’s hard to unsee it and suddenly, it feels like everything needs to change.
Your habits.
Your routines.
Your direction.
Your decisions.
It builds fast, and instead of creating momentum, it creates pressure.
So what do you do?
You hesitate.
Because it feels like too much.
I’ve done this more times than I can count.
I’ll have a moment of clarity and then immediately try to redesign everything.
And almost every time it backfires.
Not because I don’t want to change but because I’m trying to change too much at once.
Lately, I’ve been approaching it differently.
Instead of asking:
“How do I fix everything?”
I ask:
“What’s one thing that would make today slightly better?”
Not perfect.
Not complete.
Just… better.
And then I go even smaller.
What’s the easiest version of that?
Because if it still feels heavy, then I haven’t made it simple enough.
That’s been the shift.
Lowering the bar.
Not to avoid progress but to actually make it possible.
A short walk instead of a full plan.
A single decision instead of a full overhaul.
One honest conversation instead of solving everything.
It doesn’t look impressive, but it moves things forward.
And once something moves… even a little… it’s easier to keep going.
I’m starting to realize that change doesn’t come from intensity. It comes from consistency and consistency is easier when the step is small enough to actually take.
I’m still working on this.
Still catching myself when I try to do too much too fast.
But when I keep it simple… I actually follow through and that’s what matters.
Maybe you don’t need a big plan right now.
Maybe you just need a smaller starting point.
Something you can actually do.
Today.
And then tomorrow… you do it again.
What’s one small thing you could do today that would move you forward?
Not everything.
Just one thing.

I’m working through this in real time—one small step at a time.

This is me in a nutshell. I am a great planner. I am also am all or nothing girl. Thus, my great plans are just plans, no action. I love this idea of how to make today better. One little thing!
I like the question "what’s the easiest version of that". I had the chance to have a bit of a mentor - and successful entrepreneur - in my twenties who sadly passed away. One of his teachings was to always try and find a lazy way to do things... This is a good reminder.
